According to the VSPR Charter, there are 6 Council Groups, 4 voting groups and 2 non-voting groups. (There are also working groups focused on specific technical projects. Information regarding their charters and individual lists is on the Working Groups page.)

With each voting group comes a mailing list for members. The list for the at-large group, "general," is open to posting by all Council memers, and is intended to serve as a forum for general discussion. There is a lso a special list reserved for VSPR announcements approved by the Executive Committee and another for correspondence with the Advisory Group. Anyone is free to subscribe to receive any of the mailing lists or browse their web archives. There are thus 7 lists, as follows:
